How do I apply?

Are participants able to earn college credits?
Yes, three college credits are offered to those who are eligible through the University of Hawaii, through the Summer Program and the Hana Hou Program. Please inquire for details.

Are these internships paid?
- Yes they are!
Year Round AmeriCorps interns receive a living allowance of up to $1,300 per month plus benefits and a $5,350 educational award. - Summer Program team leaders receive $3,000 throughout the course of the summer and a $1,000 educational award.
- Hana Hou members receive a $1,000 stipend and a $1,000 educational award.
- Summer Program members earn a $1,000 stipend.
Is there a cost to the program?
No. However,summer members arerequired to provide a $200 check deposit upon acceptance, which will NOT be cashed unless the member: 1) Withdraws or fails to complete the program after he/she has committed themselves, or 2) Breaks his/her contract and is dismissed prematurely. This $200 is to go towards pre-made travel arrangements and other costs involved with coordinating his/her position in the program.
Can I apply to more than one island?
Yes; however, please be sure that you have reliable transportation and housing on the islands you choose to apply for.
Do you provide housing and transportation?
The program does not provide airfare to Hawaii or to the island you apply for. Housing is not provided. The program DOES cover interisland travel and lodging required by the program for trainings, conferences, and service trips. Ground transportation is also provided during working hours. Further, the Summer Program provides meals for program-related camping trips.
What will my schedule be like?
Your schedule will depend on the host organization you are working with. Most of the time, participants work full-time from Monday-Friday. Camping can be expected by some, especially for those participating in the Summer Program on the islands of Kauai, Maui, and Hawaii Island.
If I applied before, can I apply again?
Yes, we encourage those to reapply if they were not selected the first time they applied.

May I get a classroom visit or a speaker to come to my school?
Yes, please call the Hawaii Youth Conservation Corps/Kupu office to schedule a class visit.
