About Urban Corps

Purpose:

The purpose of Urban Corps is to equip under-resourced young adults with the experiences, education, training, and support needed to become productive members of society with a heart to serve and positively impact the community around them.


Urban Corps Program Details:

  • WHEN. Urban Corps is offered year-round, running two spring cohorts and two fall cohorts, on the island of O’ahu, HI. Urban Corps members must be available for eight weeks, approximately 24 hours a week, Monday through Friday.
  • WHAT. The Urban Corps job readiness program is FREE to all corps members. Housing and meals for Urban Corps are not provided, however, ground transportation is provided during work hours for program related activities and meals are provided during program-related camping trips. Work projects could include conservation field work, solar panel installation training, workshops, and more.
  • WHY. Urban Corps is an internship that provides its corps members with skills for the green industry, exposure to conservation and energy industry professionals, work in beautiful locations in Hawaii, character building, the chance to develop meaningful friendships/ mentorships, and the opportunity to make a difference in our community! Members may count this as their work experience component of the Clinical Competency Based High School Diploma Program (C-BASE).
  • WHERE. Corps members meet at Kupu’s Kewalo Basin facility for workshops, calisthenics, and work projects. Work projects may be throughout the island, however transportation will be provided from the Kewalo Basin facility to the various sites.
