YEAH Field Supervisor

POSITION DESCRIPTION

Kupu is a 501c3 nonprofit organization which aims to empower youth to serve their communities through character building, service learning, and environmental stewardship.  The Youth Energy Assessment Hawaii (YEAH) Program is part of Kupu’s vocational training pathway for youth and young adults to gain marketable job skills in the “sustainability sector” while being paid a fair wage.  The program focuses on training young adults ages 16-24 in residential energy auditing and conducting home energy audits through deployment of real time energy monitors as part of the Hawaii Energy Study.  Members will assist the organization and support partner agencies in the effective implementation of the Hawaii Energy Study pilot project – providing residence with real time energy consumption data and implemental recommendations in energy conservation and efficiency measures.

Position Overview

Start Date: November 1st
End Date: December 31st 2011 with a likely extension into late 2012
Application Deadline: Mid October
Position Location: Throughout Oahu- Meeting location Kewalo Basin Facility
Position Requirements: Must have driver’s license and clean driving record, past leadership of youth and young adults, interest in energy conservation
Hours: 8-19 hours a week mostly in evening and weekends
Salary: $9.00- $11.00
   

 

Field Supervisor Activities:

This position seeks a motivated individual to play a supervising role in a new residential energy efficiency program on the Island of Oahu called the Youth Energy Assessment Hawaii (YEAH).  The selected supervisor will work closely with YEAH Director and the YEAH program members, and affiliated organizations Kanu Hawaii, and Blue Planet Foundation to perform the following activities by type:

  • Residential Efficiency Program (85%):
    • Supervise program members as they conduct effective and efficient energy assessments.
      • Ensure program members complete all aspects of energy assessment including: installation
      • Serve as a liaison between audit consultant(s), YEAH members, and residential customers to effectively develop YEAH program
      • Assist with creating member work schedules and assignments
      • Transport members in company vehicle(s) to and from staging area(s) to assessment/auditing locales.
      • Assist in identification of needed program elements, improvements, and related best practices
      • To ensure all work materials, including tools and equipment, are available for energy assessments/audits and weatherization kit installations and are in good, safe working order.
      • Administrative Duties (10%)
        • Data Collection and Reporting
          • Generate mechanical and electrical equipment inventory reports.

The YEAH Program Field Supervisor required to have/be:

  • Well organized
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
  • Past experience leading/managing 16- 24 years old
  • Basic understanding of energy consumption, conservation and efficiency measures.
  • Ability to work flexible working hours, including some evenings and most weekends.
  • Ability to work independently to achieve program goals.
  • Team player with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Reliable transportation to and from staging area.
  • Motivated to achieve high levels of individual and team performance.
  • Excellent problem solving skills with ability to analyze situations identify existing or potential problems and recommend solutions, including ability to understand the specific goals and needs of the program.
