AVAILABILITY:

Positions will be filled by individuals who have demonstrated an interest in energy conservation, renewable energy, sustainable living, and/or environmental job opportunities. Positions are available on the island of Oahu. The YEAH Program is scheduled to begin in Fall 2011 and run until December 2011 with possible program extension into 2012.

POSITION INFORMATION:

Members are not selected based on their academic performance however, reading and arithmetic comprehension are necessary skills.  The positions may be physically demanding including rigorous mechanical training.

During the program, participants will learn about energy auditing techniques and best practices. While actively participating in energy auditing efforts throughout Oahu YEAH program participants will be mentored by and work alongside Hawaii’s premiere energy conservation leaders.

YEAH member positions offered through Kupu will consist of multiple hours of introduction to energy auditing orientation, a week long energy assessment/auditing training (Monday-Friday, 8-5), and 4-19 hour/per/wk commitments to issue home energy audits with some hours falling on weekends. Applicants will need to have at least 15 hours available during these times throughout the entire program period. This is not a residential program and participants must provide their own housing and transportation. The participants will be responsible for their own transportation to training locations. Transportation will be provided from staging area to home energy audit locations and back to staging area. Members must complete assigned audits each month to successfully fulfill program requirements. Participants will receive:

  • Paid wage (minimum wage – $9 per hour)
  • Free energy assessment and audit training from top industry professionals ($650+ value)
  • hands-on experience in the ‘green jobs’ industry

BENEFITS:

Participants will gain valuable training throughout the program and will meet and learn from industry leaders who work in the fields of energy auditing, energy conservation, water conservation, and sustainable living. In addition, they will gain career experience in the ‘green job’ industry, learn about conservation and energy issues facing Hawai’i, gain knowledge in sustainable practices, learn useful skills relevant to Hawaii’s green job sector, and develop professional skills necessary for advancement in energy conservation and other fields. Participants will be part of an innovative study of Hawaii’s energy consumption – making initial steps to bigger campaigns for ‘energy conservation here in the islands’. Members will be conducting energy audits throughout Oahu and will equip residents with ‘timely information and relevant education through a mix of household monitors, home audits, and other energy-saving technology’.

APPLICANT CRITERIA:

  • Youth 16-24 years old may apply for a YEAH program member position.
  • A sincere interest in energy conservation, renewable energy and green job training opportunities a plus.
  • Must have all current and proper paperwork to be working in the U.S.
  • Participants are not selected based on their academic performance.
  • No previous experience necessary, basic reading and arithmetic comprehension are necessary skills.
  • Positions are available on Oahu.
  • The program starts in Fall 2011 and ends in December 2011 with anticipated program extension into 2012.
