The Lokomaikaʻi Tree: Rooted in Generosity
At Kupu, generosity is more than a value—it’s a way of life. The Lokomaikaʻi Tree, symbolized by the ʻulu (breadfruit) tree, stands as a powerful reminder of how our staff give of themselves through time, talent, and personal contributions to support our mission and the youth we serve.
The ʻulu was thoughtfully chosen for its cultural significance in Hawaiʻi—celebrated for its abundance, nourishment, and ability to sustain entire communities. It perfectly reflects the spirit of generosity that lives within our Kupu ʻohana and the shared kuleana we hold to uplift one another and care for our ʻāina.
During our Annual Campaign, the Lokomaikaʻi Tree came to life—growing new leaves and ʻulu, each representing a staff member’s act of giving. Whether it's volunteering at events, mentoring youth, offering professional expertise, or donating personally, every contribution adds to the tree and deepens our collective impact. Each leaf is an expression of aloha. A recognition of those who go above and beyond their daily roles to strengthen our community and help our mission thrive.
Rooted in abundance and reciprocity, the Lokomaikaʻi Tree reminds us that leadership and restoration begin within. And it’s through the generous hearts of our team that Kupu continues to grow and flourish.
We are truly grateful to our staff whose acts of generosity make this work possible—and whose aloha helps shape a stronger future for Hawaiʻi.
